Statistical Divisions and statistical subdivisions

A Statistical Division (SD) is an Australian Standard Geographical Classification (ASGC) defined area which represents a large, general purpose, regional type geographic area. The Statistical Subdivision (SSD) is an Australian Standard Geographical Classification (ASGC) defined area which represents an intermediate level, general purpose, regional type geographic unit.

Census data from the 1% CURF, however, combines some statistical divisions and statistical subdivisions to maintain confidentiality.

Community Services Regions

Seven Community Services regions cover NSW. Three cover the Sydney metropolitan area and four cover rural and regional NSW.

Area Health Services and Local Health Networks

On the 1January 2011 Local Health Districts (LHD) replaced Area Health Services (AHS) as the NSW Department of Health geographic area.

Prior to the move to LHD NSW had eight AHS, four covered the Sydney metropolitan region and four cover rural and regional NSW.

NSW now has 15 Local Health Networks (LHN), eight cover the Sydney metropolitan region and seven cover rural and regional NSW.

Ten school regions cover NSW. Four cover the Sydney metropolitan area and six cover rural and regional NSW.
